"Every day on the move Isabel ran a half marathon (21km) and cycled between 100 - 160km through the countries of Southern Africa (South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and back to South Africa). Assisted by her sister Raphaela and her husband Lloyd as support team and filmer she covered a distance of 9 300kms in 4 months and 18 days."
Environmental Education We have visited over 40 schools throughout Southern Africa educating over 16 000 children and young adults on the importance of environment and wildlife conservation. I believe that the future of conservation lies in the hands of children and our aim is to create social change all over the world. Sport builds bridges between social levels, affects everybody positively at a personal and community level and Earth Awareness has chosen it as a medium to reach to people. |
Awareness Through media and events the campaign aimed to spread awareness in the different countries and offer information about the poaching crisis to the public sector. To create greater interest and to show the effort we are prepared to go I have run and cycled over 9300 km’s through South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Swaziland. We are aware of about 52 publications but often the campaign was picked up by newspapers and articles were published without our knowledge. |
Survey 158 survey questionnaires from over 40 different organizations throughout Southern Africa have been filled out. Over the last couple of years poaching has increased dramatically and the information gathered is valuable in finding solutions to this crisis. A scientist from Save the Rhino Trust Namibia is assisting in the evaluation and has shown great interest in the results for his PhD. The evaluation is currently taking place. |
